S2 E14: Something About Classic Rock with Steve Sizemore

In this episode of Something Will Happen Melissa is joined by Steve Sizemore of the Steve Sizemore Group. The two discuss his upbringing with music, his history with the festival, and what he is planning to bring to Abbey Road on the River 2023!

Steve shares how his history with music was first influenced by his mother as a child. She exposed him to musical artists such as Elvis and Glen Campbell. Later, a cousin introduced him to the Beatles, Kiss, and other artists. He tells how he started off playing the drums, then inspired by watching Paul McCartney, he moved on to learning guitar and piano as well. He created a band after high school, which later evolved into the Steve Sizemore Group that we have come to love at Abbey Road on the River.

While Steve says he has been most influenced by Paul, he made sure to spend time in the conversation giving Ringo his props. Steve talks about how as a drummer, he can’t overlook how talented Ringo is and described him as the first powerhouse drummer. Although Ringo is often overshadowed by the other three members, he deserves just as much credit for his musical prowess and ingenuity.

Melissa then asks how Steve got involved with Abbey Road on the River. Luckily, the cousin who introduced Steve to the Beatles also introduced him to our festival. After some research, Steve reached out to producer Gary Jacob, sent him some recordings and got his chance to perform at the festival. He reminisces about notable memories of AROTR throughout the years including the year that the Beach Boys performed, noting how one of them stayed and watched his entire set!

Melissa asks Steve about some of the different tribute shows he has performed over the years. Steve Sizemore Group is known at Abbey Road on the River for incorporating classic rock shows along with the Beatles. The two of them go off on a lovely tangent on Bruce Springsteen when Steve tells us about the Bruce tribute show he has planned for this year. He talks of the vocal challenge, how he is playing more guitar than ever in this show, and he is even incorporating the use of harmonica. This will be a show you won’t want to miss!
